Why we invested in Whatmore [Video AI, e-commerce]

Whatmore - Revolutionizing E-commerce Through AI-Powered Video

In a world where video is becoming the primary medium for online shopping, Whatmore is building the infrastructure to make video creation accessible, affordable, and effective for e-commerce brands of all sizes. With strong early traction, proven unit economics, and a talented founding team, we believe Whatmore is positioned to become a category-defining company in the e-commerce infrastructure space.

The Opportunity

When we first met Shyam and Prabhu, what immediately struck us was their deep understanding of both the technical and business challenges in e-commerce. They weren't just building another video tool – they were solving a fundamental problem that's keeping thousands of e-commerce brands from reaching their full potential.

The numbers tell a compelling story: video content drives 3x higher engagement and conversions compared to static images. Yet, for most brands, creating these videos remains an expensive, time-consuming nightmare. When we dug deeper into Whatmore's customer conversations, we heard the same pain points repeatedly: "$100 per video, two weeks of back-and-forth with agencies, and still not getting exactly what we need."

Why We're Excited

Three key factors drove our investment decision:

1. Product-Market Fit Is Already Evident

- Aachho, a leading ethnic wear brand, generated ₹40L in sales through Whatmore-powered videos since adoption, with 3x higher conversion rates

- Meeraplussizestore is consistently generating 10% of their total sales via Whatmore

- Early customers are seeing 2x conversion rates and 20% higher average order values

2. Massive, Growing Market

The team has identified a clear path to a $5B TAM across:

- 15M marketplace sellers desperately needing video content

- 7M DTC stores looking to enhance their shopping experience

- 2M drop shippers requiring engaging ad content

3. Right Team, Right Time

- The founders combine deep expertise in AI (Praneet), e-commerce platforms (Shyam), and scalable systems (Prabhu)

- Their experience at Flipkart and Samsung gives them unique insights into enterprise-scale problems

- Most importantly, they have the rare ability to translate complex technical solutions into tangible business outcomes

Why This Works

Whatmore's approach is clever. Instead of building another generic video tool, they're creating a specialized solution that:

- Integrates directly into existing e-commerce workflows

- Delivers platform-specific videos (marketplace listings, DTC websites, social ads)

- Automates the entire process from creation to deployment

The early results are compelling: customers using Whatmore see:

- 2% conversion rates (vs 1% industry standard)

- ₹3600 average order value (20% higher than normal)

- 50% lower customer acquisition costs

Risks and Mitigations

1. Competition from Generic AI Video Tools

- Whatmore's e-commerce-specific features and integrations create high switching costs

- Early mover advantage in building e-commerce-specific training data

2. Market Education Challenge

- Strong case studies from brands like Aachho and Suta

- Clear ROI metrics driving organic adoption

3. Technical Execution

- Team's background in building scalable systems at Flipkart

- Already demonstrated ability to handle complex video processing at scale

The Investment Case

We co-led Whatmore's seed round with Good Capital because we believe they've identified a crucial intersection:

  • Addressing a Critical Gap: Whatmore solves the pressing issue of scalable video creation for e-commerce, addressing inefficiencies in traditional workflows and delivering high-quality, platform-specific content that drives real results.

  • Massive Market Opportunity: With the global shift toward video-first e-commerce, Whatmore is well-positioned to capture a significant share of the $5B TAM.

  • AI-Driven Innovation: By leveraging AI to automate video creation, Whatmore provides a cost-effective, scalable solution that levels the playing field for small and mid-sized brands.

  • Strong Founder-Led Team: Whatmore’s leadership team combines deep expertise in AI, video technologies, and e-commerce, with a proven track record of innovation and execution. The founders bring complementary strengths: one with a technical background in developing AI systems, and the other with a sharp focus on scaling e-commerce operations globally, creating a formidable team driving the company’s rapid growth and market penetration.

Their ARR has grown 5x since our investment with 85% gross margins, growing 25% month-over-month, shows strong unit economics. With a PLG driven motion, they are able to serve the US market from India. More importantly, their vision of becoming the central hub for e-commerce video creation and management positions them well for long-term value creation.
