HealthBasix is the largest provider of school-based well-being services in India, serving 240,000 children through full-time programs and 390,000 children through part-time programs. The company’s mission is to empower educational institutions by elevating health, offering a comprehensive platform that integrates physical and mental health services both online and on-site. HealthBasix addresses the critical gap in preventive care, mental health support, and special education for school-aged children, providing essential services that India’s current healthcare infrastructure largely overlooks.

 



 

Our Investment Thesis

 

1. Addressing Critical Gaps in Child Healthcare 

India faces a significant healthcare challenge, particularly for its youngest citizens. Currently, 1 in 5 Indian children require mental health services, but the country has a 95% treatment gap for pediatric mental health. Additionally, 16 million children are affected by obesity, and a considerable number are prediabetic. Schools generally lack accessible preventive and mental health resources, leaving these issues largely unaddressed. HealthBasix bridges this gap by bringing healthcare directly into schools, providing timely health assessments, mental health counseling, and special education resources, all within the educational environment where early interventions can have the most impact.

 

2. A Large and Growing Market for Child Wellbeing 

The children's wellness market in India is projected to grow substantially, valued at $25 billion with an expected CAGR of 22%. Within this market, HealthBasix targets the 125 million students in affordable private schools, a segment that remains underserved by traditional healthcare providers. The broader after-school program market, valued at $12.5 billion, further complements HealthBasix’s offerings. By meeting the health and wellness needs of this extensive student base through affordable services, HealthBasix is positioned to capture a large share of a high-growth market.

 

3. Comprehensive Digital and Offline Solutions 

HealthBasix employs a hybrid model combining in-school services, after-school programs, and online consultations to create an integrated health ecosystem for children. The platform’s offerings include well-child assessments, in-school infirmaries, mental health counseling, special education support, and after-school programs focusing on physical fitness and life skills. This all-encompassing approach ensures that children’s physical, mental, and social needs are met, providing a one-stop solution for schools and parents alike. The platform also utilizes electronic health records (EHR) which serves as a 'digital health passport' that captures the history of the child's wellness journey and can be used in the future to engage with 3rd party healthcare providers.

 

4. Scalable and Profitable Business Model 

Operating on a subscription basis, HealthBasix offers plans ranging from Rs. 199 to Rs. 999 per child, depending on service inclusivity. Currently, HealthBasix serves 300+ schools across 40+ cities and 11 states, with a 40% y-o-y growth. With strategic expansion goals targeting 8,900 schools and 10 million students over the next five years, HealthBasix is well-positioned for rapid scale and profitability, with a sustainable revenue model that aligns with the market’s increasing demand for affordable healthcare solutions.
